Welcome!
The mission of the Latrobe Reading Center is to partner with students, their parents and teachers, and the community at large to develop motivated, strategic and competent readers, writers, and learners.
1. Consultation and Evaluation
Your child’s first visit to the Latrobe Reading Center will begin with a consultation that will focus on you and/or your child’s needs, concerns and priorities, and will determine if my services are appropriate for your situation.
Next, we will administer a comprehensive evaluation to assess where your child is on her or her journey toward reading proficiency. Components of the evaluation will assess most or all the following areas related to literacy development and will identify frustration, instructional, and independent reading levels:
Reading motivation
Reading attitudes and interests
Reader self-perception
Phonemic awareness
Concepts of print
Phonics skills
Sight word recognition
Reading comprehension
Oral reading fluency
2. Report and Recommendations
On your second visit to the Latrobe Reading Center, we will present you with a detailed report of the evaluation findings and of our recommendations.
3. Ongoing Assessments
Throughout your child’s prescribed course of study, we will continue to monitor his or her progress on a visit-to-visit basis with a variety of informal assessments and adjust our instruction accordingly.
4. Teaching Methods
All sessions are "one-to-one" to best meet your or your child's unique needs. To view additional information about our teaching methods and philosophy click here.
